Goodtime Mama Jojo

Goodtime Mama Jojo is a British burlesque Legend, an international performer, choreographer, teacher, speaker, and confidence coach — a woman who turns tease into transformation and performance into power.

Her story began in the late 1970s, on the smoky stages of London’s West End cabaret clubs, as a burlesque striptease artiste. She shimmied all over the UK, parts of Germany, Italy, Spain, and the US. She has captivated audiences with her mesmerising stagecraft, tongue-in-cheek humour, and fearless sensuality for almost five decades.

Realising the therapeutic benefits of her craft, in 2000, she took an entrepreneurial leap of artistic faith and founded the very first schools in the UK to teach the arts of striptease, burlesque, and pole-dancing.

Her vision was radical in its simplicity: To help people feel fabulous in their own skin, regardless of age, identity, size, ethnicity, or ability. Her trail-blazing innovations have indisputably played a huge part in the acceptance and recognition of these art-forms.
Mama Jojo has inspired thousands of people worldwide and has taught, mentored, and choreographed generations of performers, including; Immodesty Blaize, Kiki Kaboom, Miss Polly Rae, Legs Malone, Bettsie Bon Bon, Lilly Snatchdragon, Athena Beauvoir, Velvet Jones, Ivy Paige, Aya L'Storm and countless others.

She has also appeared in numerous films and television documentaries. She has taught many celebrities and actresses including; TV presenter and writer - Dawn O'Porter, millionaire property developer - Linda Ashley, actress and disability rights activist - Liz Carr, and former super-model - Agyness Deyn. Renowned for her all-inclusive ethos and can-do attitude, she is the go-to person for many disability-led productions. In 2005, she taught and choreographed a group of men (with a variety of disabilities) for the ground-breaking and award-winning docu-film “The Crippendales”.

Mama Jojo is a sought-after speaker on burlesque and its life-changing qualities, delivering seminars and workshops for organisations such as The Royal Shakespeare Company, The London School of Economics, The Royal Festival Hall, Coco de Mer, The W.I. And The Athena Network, amongst others.

In 2008, she was the first British performer to be recognised and celebrated as a burlesque Legend by the iconic Burlesque Hall of Fame in Las Vegas. In 2024 she was invited to return to BHOF to perform at the 67th Annual Titans & Icons of Tease Reunion Showcase where she was overwhelmed to receive a standing ovation.

Unapologetically passionate, fiercely inclusive, and endlessly creative, Goodtime Mama Jojo continues her lifelong mission of “Keeping the TEASE alive” with purpose, humour, and the SNAP still firmly in her suspenders!
